The Mission

T.E.S.T. prioritizes quality of life as its highest value. We strive to do so by building innovative biosensors with an effective purpose in the healthcare system. With effective, we mean that we carefully examine where potential value can be gained, or issues can be solved. We consider many destinations for a biosensor in this process, such as hospitals, labs or the patients’ homes. Lastly, we aim to contribute to long-term developments in the field, such as creating real-time and wearable sensors.

The Challenge

The Dutch healthcare system is under a lot of stress. Population ageing is causing an increasing demand for health care, while a tight labour market restricts the amount of care that can be provided from medical professionals. Furthermore, healthcare expenditures in the Netherlands are projected to rise more rapidly than economic growth in the coming years, leading to displacement of other government expenditures. Efforts have to be made to address these issues without sacrificing quality of healthcare for patients.

The Solution

Shifting the healthcare system towards prevention rather than treatment can address all of the aforementioned issues. Prevention of diseases can prevent high medical costs and extensive demand from medical professionals. It also furthers the health of the population. It is important that the shift towards prevention is stimulated by effective and accessible tools. Hereby, we will be developing a tabletop biosensor that can be used for an array of medical tests. These tests can be done with minimal effort and in rapid succession. General practitioners will be able to use the device for diagnosis and prevention of varying medical conditions.
